The Lion Rampant of Scotland is said to have been used by William the Lion, King of Scots from 1165 to 1214. A Scottish Crest Badge is worn to show allegiance to an individual or clan. According to the Court of the Lord Lyon, the Official Heraldic Office for Scotland, anyone who is immediate or extended family, bears the clan surname or a sept name, or professes allegiance to the clan and its chief, can wear the clan chief’s crest encircled by a strap and buckle and inscribed with their chief’s motto.
